General

How do I apply?

1. Complete the inquiry form by visiting www.abceducationgroup.com/host.

2. Receive your welcome email with instructions for completing your application and background checks. (Background checks are required for all household members who are 18 years or older.)

3. A local representative will contact you to schedule an in-person home visit.

4. Once your host family application has been completed and approved, you will be able to work with your local representative to review student applications (as they are available) to choose a student(s) that you feel will be a good fit for your family.

To ensure we get the best matches possible, please fill out your application as thoroughly as possible so we can understand your family’s lifestyles and preferences.

How long does it take to get a student placed in my home?

Once you complete the inquiry form, application, and phone interview, we will begin the process of matching you to the student that best fits your preferences and lifestyle. This can happen right away or could take weeks, depending on the demand in your area.

In terms of meals, what would I need to prepare?

You will provide three meals and snacks to the student daily, with one meal preferred served hot.

How long will the student be staying with us?

Our students can apply for either a single semester or a full school year.

Can we host if we have a pet?

Of course, it just needs to be stated on your application form. Some students will fall in love with your pets whereas some may be afraid or allergic to them. In those cases, we’ll ensure you aren’t matched with that student.

Student Specifics

Does the student have health insurance?

Yes. It is a requirement of the ABC Study Abroad Program.

Will the student have their own spending money?

Yes. Students of all ages will have their own money. You are expected to provide their three meals but you are not expected to pay the student’s expenses beyond your host agreement.

Payment

How do I get paid?

Upon a successful match with a student, the stipend will be processed on the fifth business day of every month for the student’s duration of stay in the previous month. It will be paid via direct deposit. If for any reason the student leaves your home mid-way through a hosting period, the per diem stipend is calculated at the monthly rate divided by 30, rounded up to nearest 50 cents/full dollar.

How much is the monthly stipend?

Stipend is dependent on location.

Is the stipend that I receive taxable?

Yes. Stipend payments are considered non-employment income. At the end of every year, a 1099 form will be issued to you. Please speak with a tax specialist to see how you can deduct these expenses from the taxable income as ABC Education Group is not authorized to advise on tax matters.
